Snuggie for Kids

Snuggie for Kids

The Snuggie became the ‘must have’ product when their, now infamous, TV Commercial went viral in 2008. The Snuggie wasn’t even the first ‘blanket with sleeves’ product on the market, it was pre-dated by the Slanket by a couple of years, which in turn was pre-dated by the Freedom Blanket…..but it was the Snuggie that grabbed the nation’s attention.

The concept was simple – a blanket with sleeves, so you can sit on the sofa on those cold winter nights and still have your arms free to hold drinks, use the remote, or whatever. The product was a huge success and took off instantly selling millions of units.

Many people who bought a Snuggie soon found out that members of their family and their kids would take over their Snuggie, and trying to get it back proved to be a challenge. So it wasn’t long before the people at the Slanket and Snuggie responded and made kids versions. And today we are looking at the Kids Snuggie.

Snuggie for Kids review:

Snuggie for Kids

So what is the Snuggie for Kids? The Snuggie for Kids is basically the same as a regular adult Snuggie, it is made from the same fleece material, but the dimensions are smaller so it fits children.

It is a 100% polyester fleece blanket, with sleeves so the child can keep their hands free to play video games, read a book, or play.

The back of the Snuggie is left open, but there is enough material for your child to sufficiently wrap themselves up and feel like they are fully covered, with material to spare.

How big is it?

The Kid’s Snuggie is a ‘one size fits all’ product and the dimensions are 54 inches long by 42 inches wide….so it’s not small. The issue we found with the one size fits all approach is that the Kid’s Snuggie is probably too big for smaller children.

Children's snuggie

With ‘one size fits all’ you bascially need to make oversized products to ensure they fit as many people as possible and one of the issues we found with the Kid’s Snuggie was that most children under 10 will probably find the sleeves too long. That said, you can easily roll the sleeves back, so it isn’t too much of a major issue.

One other point worth noting is that the length of these Snuggies will mean that most children won’t be able to walk in them. Again, not a major issue and you can’t have everything – if the Kid’s Snuggies were too short then they wouldn’t feel like a blanket and it wouldn’t cover you up sufficiently.

How warm is it?

The fleece material for the Snuggie is thinner than that of the Kid’s Slanket, but it still manages to do a great job of keeping kids warm. In our tests we found that some of our kids wanted to take them off, or lift up the bottom of the blanket after 15 mins as they were feeling too warm. Can’t complain at that – proves that the Snuggie does its job I guess.

The material is 100% polyester and can be a bit prone to static, but it isn’t enough to discourage use. The Snuggie for Kids is also fully machine washable, which is essential given that you can probably expect various food and drink spills on the Snuggie over ts lifespan.

In summary, the Snuggie for Kids is a pretty decent product, it does what it says it will do and you can’t go too far wrong with buying one as a gift – kids really love the novelty factor of a Snuggie and usually love wearing them. This isn’t a garment that you have to fight them to wear.

We have mentioned the size already – basically they might be a bit too big for some children, but you would rather have it that way round than it being too small, remember this is product for lounging around in, and not charging round the house in.

The quality is on a par with the adult Snuggie – which means it isn’t the thickest fleece on the market, for example the Kid’s Slanket is much thicker, but you get what you pay for the the Snuggie for Kids is much cheaper that its thicker counterparts. Plus kids will probably end up trashing it and spilling things all over it anyway – so why pay more?

The other great thing about the Snuggie for Kids is that the Snuggie makers have done a number of licensing deals so you can get Snuggies for Kids in all sorts of funky designs, including ones that include licensed characters like Spiderman, Frozen, Hello Kitty – which make these designs a great gift for your little ones.
